Tienda Variedades El Sol Naciente
San Rafael, Alajuela, Costa Rica. 2008
Overview
Tienda Variedades El Sol Naciente sells dried flowers, seeds and bulbs, in an industrial area of San Rafael de Alajuela, near Lindora. The program is compact and includes the store, offices, a warehouse and parking, organized in three zones arranged in a longitudinal sequence.
The offices occupy the front. The store occupies the center, under a curved roof that covers and displays the product. The warehouse closes the ensemble at the back, connected to the store by a loading platform. The structure is a series of steel frames with horizontal precast concrete enclosures, above which translucent strips of cellular polycarbonate ventilate the space naturally. Hot air is released through the ridge monitors.
A large window at the back of the store entrance area sets up the relationship between inside and outside. It connects the sales space with its surroundings in an austere commercial building adapted to the warm climate of the area.
