Towers in Barrio Amón
Carmen, San José, Costa Rica. 2025
Overview
The Towers in Barrio Amón are set in one of the neighbourhoods with the richest heritage in San José. Historic hotels, universities and cultural institutions define the immediate surroundings. The project responds to this context with two interconnected buildings that hold 30 studio units with retail on the ground floor, within an area of 2,900 m².
The two volumes have different characters. The first faces north with a triangular timber envelope that regulates light, creates depth and relates in a warm, contemporary way to the scale of the neighbourhood. The second adopts a more sober, reflective skin that captures the movement of the urban surroundings. Both connect at the rear, which allows a unified reading and an efficient arrangement of circulation and services. The taller tower faces west to open wide views over the city.
The project adds density without losing its relationship with the scale of Barrio Amón or with its built memory.
