Parque La Ponderosa
Tirrases, Curridabat, Costa Rica. 2017
Overview
Parque La Ponderosa is part of the Conjunto Tirrases and redefines a mountainous residential edge through a sequence of platforms that take advantage of the steep topography. Four terraces with distinct functions (children’s play, a basketball court and lounging areas) step down the slope and link routes through vegetation, landscape and community.
The complex is organized along a linear axis that connects the different levels with stairs and paths. On one of the terraces, cantilevered bleachers provide shade, light up a gabion texture and recover an existing bench. Red on the metal elements (railings, enclosures and lightweight structures) contrasts with the surrounding green and marks the presence of the park in the Tirrases landscape.
The park turns the slope into program and makes the most of the view toward Curridabat.
