Mercado de Artesanos de Turrialba
Turrialba, Turrialba, Costa Rica. 2019
Overview
The Turrialba Artisans and Organic Producers Market sits in the INCOFER rail yards, diagonally across from the former Atlantic Railway Station, as part of the Feria Natural Project. The program is deliberately flexible. A modular, open pavilion houses sales stalls with portable furniture, joins the adjacent farmers market and offers covered seating areas for visitors.
The structure is proposed in bamboo, a locally produced material that shares a natural origin with the heritage buildings of the complex, which are built mostly in timber. The market thus belongs to the place through its materiality as well.
It is an open, lightweight and adaptable space for the economic and social revitalization of Turrialba, in the railway heart of the city.
