Conjunto Tirrases
Tirrases, Curridabat, Costa Rica. 2011
Overview
Tirrases is a district of Curridabat with an intense social life. It has 16,000 residents, steep topography with wide landscape views, a mountainous area to the south and a river edge to the north. Conjunto Tirrases brings together interventions spread across the district, conceived as a system rather than as isolated pieces.
The ensemble organizes two main works and five smaller ones. The main ones are the Centro Deportivo Tirrases and the Centro de Desarrollo Humano Tirrases, known as La Cometa, the first of its kind in the country. The smaller ones are the Pinos del Este bus stop, the Microplaza Pinos del Este, Parque Las Mercedes, Parque Ponderosa and the Paseo Peatonal Las Mercedes. Together they form a network of public space that runs through the fabric of the district.
The axes that guide the ensemble are connectivity between neighborhoods, new sports spaces, social encounter, mobility and the improvement of public space. The project worked at the community, municipal and national scales and paved the way for the development of Tirrases.
