Parque Recreativo Jorge Debravo

Turrialba, Turrialba, Costa Rica. 2022

Overview

Parque Recreativo Jorge Debravo is part of the Turrialba Renewal Plan and fills a real gap in the southeast of the city. It is the only recreational space in that sector, close to the Rafael Ángel Camacho Stadium and to preschools and primary schools with poor sports facilities. The project responds to that shortage with a program that balances recreation, sport and culture.

The park sits on the edge between the neighborhood and the farmland. That condition defines its composition. The bands of the plan respond to the productive landscape that borders it, and the amphitheater is oriented so that the farmland and the mountain become its natural backdrop. A covered walkway organizes the route with a formal reference to the Guayabo National Monument. Along that axis are the covered amphitheater, the multipurpose court, seating areas and a pet area. Existing tree species are enhanced and the complex connects with the adjacent senior center.

Lighting extends every use into the night. The park is inclusive and brings this sector into the civic life of Turrialba.
