Laboratorio del Centro Atómico de Bariloche
Bariloche, Argentina. 2009
Overview
The Experimental Laboratory of the Centro Atómico Bariloche is part of the Instituto Balseiro, one of the most important scientific research centers in the Americas. The building houses the experimental program of the basic courses in physics, mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering. Between 50 and 60 experiments run simultaneously, each one led by a student.
The program is organized into a 200 m² main hall and two 100 m² halls, which can be subdivided to allow three to four experiments in parallel. Teaching, office and technical service areas complete the ensemble. The logic of flexible subdivision responds directly to the teaching methodology of the Instituto Balseiro.
The interior is organized around a central double height space that creates transparency between levels. A translucent roof and a glass facade fill the space with natural light and balance the rigor of the scientific program with a bright atmosphere, adapted to the climate of Bariloche.
